This year, Two Brothers Foods was pleased to support The Cornwall Life Food and Drink Awards, sponsoring the Chef of the Year category.
It was the first time this particular category has been included in the awards – surprising considering the wealth of possible candidates!
However, the eventual winner was no surprise. Nathan Outlaw is Cornwall’s most acclaimed chef – his establishments (5 in total) currently hold multiple Michelin Stars, he has published three very successful cookery books, and has appeared on shows including Saturday Kitchen and The Great British Menu. Nathan has certainly set the bar high for future candidates for this award!
The awards are designed to celebrate and promote excellence, and to recognise local producers in Cornwall. The Chef of the Year category is dedicated to championing Cornwall-based chefs who have devoted themselves to the cause of serving the best possible food within the region.
Nathan said he was very proud of this latest award and thanked everyone who voted. It’s been a busy year for the entrepreneurial chef, who relaunched his flagship establishment, Restaurant Nathan Outlaw – relocating from Rock to Port Isaac.
The other shortlisted chefs represented both the established elite and the up-and-coming.
Paul Ainsworth is a familiar and respected figure on the Cornish food scene. He holds a Michelin Star at his restaurant in Padstow and has also represented the South West on The Great British Menu. Paul diversified his business operations with an Italian restaurant (Rojanos) and most recently a boutique hotel, opening Padstow Townhouse in December 2015.
Meanwhile, wildcard Aaron James is Executive Chef at the Harbour Fish and Grill on the edge of Newquay’s harbour, overlooking seven of the town’s beaches. He has designed a menu using eclectic global inspiration, and created using fresh local ingredients.
We have enjoyed being involved with the awards and would like to congratulate all of those shortlisted!
